Beautiful jalisco! Que lindo es Jalisco!

It’s been a while since we wrote last,  a few miles have gone by since. We decided to leave real early the morning we headed for the Mexican border at Tijuana in order to avoid the queues. We arrived at the border crossing about 7am, no cars, no queues, no nothing, fantastic!! We passed the police control, no one stopped us, great!! We were expecting someone to stop us next to get our paperwork but since we heard that some crossings have the immigration separated from the police check by a few metres or sometimes Km we kept going and before we knew  where we were we found ourselves  driving around downtown Tijuana, the one place on the planet we were trying to avoid, especially with no tourist visa for ourselves and with no temporary import permit for our bike. As is the custom here in Mexico there were no road signs to be seen anywhere so ended up lost in Tijuana while trying to find the American border to allow us to start all over again. When  we eventually found the way back to America the queue was aprox 3km long...great. When we got to the check point the Us border guard asked us where were we going and how long were we in Mexico, and he did not find it a bit funny when we told him about our trip to Argentina and that we have been in Mexico for an hour trying to find America and now we are on our way back to Mexico again!!! (hey, some guys don’t have a sense of humour....). To make a long story short we did get our papers sorted the second time around (Dan, you must be proud of us, ha,ha!!).

Ja fa uns dies que no escrivíem el blog i ja hem recorregut uns quants Km des d’aleshores.  El dia que vam creuar cap a Mèxic a través de Tijuana vam decidir de llevar-nos ben d’hora per tal de no trobar cues a la frontera. Vam arribar a la frontera a les 7 del matí, ni una cua, ni un cotxe ni res de res, fantàstic! Passem el control policial, ningú ens para, perfecte! Ens vam pensar que un cop pasada la policia algú ens pararia per indicar-nos on anar i com fer tot el paperam dels visats però com que ens han anat dient que a algunes fronteres podem haver-hi d’uns metres a uns quants Km de diferència entre el control policial i el de immigració vam anar tirant fins que vam anar a parar al centre de Tijuana, l’única part del planeta que volíem evitar, especialment sense tenir un visat en regle ni papers de importació a Mèxic en regla per la moto. Com es costum aquí a Mèxic no hi havia ni una senyal de transit indicant per a on tirar així que vam acabar perduts a Tijuana mentre buscàvem la frontera per tornar als Estats Units per així poder tornar cap a Mèxic i començar de nou! Quan finalment vam trobar la frontera cap els Estats Units la cua era d’uns 3 Km...fantàstic! Quan arribem a la frontera y el policia Americà ens pregunta cap a on anàvem i quan temps hem passat a Mèxic  no li ha fet gaire gràcia quan li hem intentat explicar lo del viatge a Argentina, i que portàvem una hora en territori Mexicà mirant de trobar la frontera Americana per tal de tornar a creuar cap a Mèxic! (...alguns tius no tenen sentit del humor, ha,ha,ha!!). Per resumir la història, vam poder tornar a Mèxic i obtenir tots els permisos la segona vegada! (L’amic Dan de San Diego deu estar orgullós de nosaltres!!!).

Off we went for Baja, a 1500Km of dirty hot desert! We rushed on our last day in Baja to catch a ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan (main land Mexico). When we checked on the net it was a 12hour crossing so we thought we would get ourselves a cabin on board to chill out. We were told there was two ferrys available, one of them nicer than the other and they sail every other day. As it turned out we got the other, a cargo ferry and our 12 hour journey turned into a wet and stormy 16 hour crossing. Can’t beat getting woken up out of your sleeping bag at 2am by thunder and lightning and thumping rain on top of you.  So much for chillin out! Stayed in Mazatlan for 2 nights to re-charge our batteries after the hot trip throught Baja. We met a lovely Canadian couple with their son riding 3 bikes to SouthAmerica for a year, hi to Michael, Jing and Sean if you are reading this (...and good news for you: it’s gradually getting cooler and greener over here!).  Also we met Jason, a young  English guy who is doing the same trip as us but with a slight little difference: he’s cycling it!!!! A real adventurer and a great inspiration to us, fair play to you Jason, best of luck!

Vam anar tirant per Baja Califòrnia, 1500Km de desert molt calorós i molt brut! L’últim dia a Baja vam córrer per tal de enganxar el ferry a La Paz que ens portaria fins a Mazatlan. Quan vam mirar la informació per Internet deia que era un viatge d’unes 12 hores així que teníem decidit llogar un camarot per poder descansar be. Ens van explicar que hi havia 2 ferrys, un mes maco que l’altre i que cada dia surt un o altre. Per mala sort e que sortia aquell dia era “l’altre”, un ferry de carregament i el viatge de 12 hores va acabar sent de 16 hores de viatge amb tormenta inclosa. No hi ha res com que et despertin quan dorms a l’aire lliure amb pluja, trons i llamps, menys mal que volíem descansar! Vam quedar-nos 2 dies a Mazatlan per carregar les bateries desprès del viatge calorós de Baja. Allà ens vam topar amb una parella de Canadencs i el seu fill  viatjant amb 3 motos cap a l’Amèrica del Sud durant un any, salutacions al Michael, Jing i Sean si esteu llegint això (..i bones notícies: ja es va baixant la calor i tot es mes verd per aquí baix!).  També vam conèixer en Jason, un jove anglès que està fent el mateix viatge que nosaltres però amb una petita diferència: ell va en bicicleta!!!! Un aventurer dels que no hi han, molta sort en el teu viatge!

Now we are in the beautiful region of Jalisco, and as the Mexican song says it’s really beautiful here, pretty towns, wonderful countryside but still no f*****g sign posts to be seen!!!  One thing we have to mention is that after so much bad press on Mexican violence and drug related incidents we have felt really safe and welcomed all along and enjoying every bit of it. 

Ara som al lindo Jalisco, i tal i com la cançó diu es molt maco, amb poblets petits i uns paisatges fascinants, però encara sense gaires maleïdes senyals de tràfic per guiar-te!!! Una cosa que volem dir comentar es que desprès de sentir tanta mala propaganda sobre la violència i els atacs relacionats amb la droga a Mèxic no ens hem sentit en cap moment insegurs, al contrari, la gent ens ha acollit molt amablement i ho estem gaudint d’allò mes.
