From Bears to Cowboys // Dels ossos als Cowboys

On our way to Monument Valley since the last time we posted we passed down through Utah, a fabolous state full of natural wonders, one of them being the Canyonlands National Park. We decided to stay in Monticello, a small mormon town (...5 minutes into the checking in process in a motel they tried to convert us!!),  from where we did a 4 hour hike to into the National Park.  The walk was absolutely amazing, a pity that we ran out of water of the way back so what it started as an idillic but hot adventure walk between gorges and canyons ended up as something out of the french foreigh legion, all we were missing was some crazy french officer screaming

MARCH OR DIE! to us as we were making our way back to the bike!!  That evening we heard there was a rodeo in town, so we decided to go. We looked like total aliens, everybody in the audience wore cowboy boots and hats, but turn out to be a very enjoyable and entertaining  evening. We also like to say a special hello to Curt and Marta,  a lovely couple who we met in Monticello and we would liked to have spent more time with, and we are sure we will some time in the future.

One day we met a man called John Patrick O’Sullivan, a GS rider who put us in contact with Dan Toporoski, another  GS rider with a load of touring experience who via email gave us a fantastic route through Monument Valley, Glen Canyon, Bryce Canyon all the way to the south rim of the Grand Canyon and through secondary roads and small country towns practically all the way to San Diego, where the landscape changes from trees, mountains and rivers in the north of the country to rocks, cactus and sand dunes here in the south.  It was definetely of the highlights of the trip so far, so thanks to John and specially Dan to take the time out to email us with all the info.

We are now stopped in San Diego where the bike is being serviced and we are getting a break too. Hope to be heading for the Mexico border Saturday or Sunday.  We finally got to meet Dan Toporoski this evening, a true fountain of knowledge of all things Mexican and Guatemalan and very helpful man who is gone out of his way to help us.

And that’s all for now, next time we post it will be from Mexico, so adios  y suerte muchachos!!!

The real trip starts now !!
Take a deep breath for Mexico ,most parts are great and friendly but the poverty can be a bit of a sock to the system.
If you are patient and relaxed you ll love it though.
